This union of expertise leads to scientific breakthroughs that can quickly be put into practice and be incorporated into education. This is the Wageningen Approach.

Programme Coordinator for WU - Geert Wiegertjes

Geert Wiegertjes is head of the Aquaculture and Fisheries (AFI) group. As such, he broadened his scientific interest to integrate research on fish (and shellfish) physiology, nutrition, microbiology, health and immunology, and water quality in aquaculture systems. Watch why he thinks fish are food (not friends). His personal interest in fish health and immunology often targets innate immunity and immunomodulation; he loves macrophages. He coordinated TargetFish and helped coordinate Imaquanim, ParaFishControl and presently, AquaFaang; all large European Consortia on fish health. He is President-elect of the International Society of Developmental and Comparative Immunology (ISDCI), and Associate Editor of Frontiers in Immunology and Fish & Shellfish Immunology.
